SEOUL, March 9 (Korea Bizwire)The government has developed a new measure to ensure the safe use of 3D printers after coordinating collaboration between related administrative agencies.

The new measure aims at creating a safe work environment for those using 3D printers, making sure that the equipment and material they use generates less harmful substances.

First of all, the government fully revised the 3D printing safety guidelines to give clear instructions on how to use 3D printers safely.

The government plans to provide users with safety information and consulting by establishing a 3D Printing Safety Center at the National IT Industry Promotion Agency.

After carrying out a safety check-up on an annual basis for public institutions using 3D printers, the government plans to recommend that sub-standard institutions refrain from using these types of devices.

The government also intends to promote the distribution of 3D printing material and equipment that generates less harmful substances.

3D printing has the risk of harming the health of workers if they are not sufficiently equipped with safety devices. The printing process, in general, generates fine particles and volatile organic compounds when filament is heated.
