SUWON, Nov. 7 (Korea Bizwire) — The Gyeonggi Provincial Council’s Urban Environment Committee passed a bill on the revised ordinance on managing and supporting apartment complexes in Gyeonggi Province.
The bill involves subsidizing a certain portion of the costs being paid to mobile carriers when using smartphones to electronically vote to determine or change the management method at apartment complexes, or elect members to a tenants committee.
The revised ordinance will be supporting 3,995 apartment complexes, or more than 2.5 million households.
“Higher participation in the decision-making process by providing easier access to electronic voting will help better practice direct democracy and prevent conflicts over election results,” said Kwon Rak-yong, the council member who proposed the bill.
“We expect that upcoming revisions on city and district ordinances along with budget allocations will help expand the electronic voting system for apartment complexes.”
The revised bill with be finalized at a plenary session on Thursday.
