SEOUL, Jan.20 (Korea Bizarre)A recent survey has revealed that one out of two singles in their 20s and 30s are thinking about signing a prenup before getting married.

Furthermore, more than half of the male respondents to the survey answered that they would get married again after divorce, while women preferred not to get married again.

The matchmaking company Duo and Duo Human Life Research Center run by Professor Choi In-cheol of Seoul National University’s Department of Psychology have revealed the results of a survey related to marriage and divorce. The survey was conducted on 1,000 singles (503 men and 497 women) between the ages of 25 and 39.

To the question “What do you think of a prenup?”, 53.1 percent answered that it was necessary.

Of note, respondents between the ages of 35 and 39 thought that signing a prenup was a must (56.6 percent). Those who were older and had higher incomes had a tendency to acknowledge the need for prenups.

At around one third, 33.8 percent of the respondents answered that there has to be some sort of agreement, even if they do not draw up legal papers.

‘Rules related to both families’ was the term most respondents thought should be agreed on before marriage (18.2 percent). ‘Rules between the couple’ ranked second (17.8 percent), followed by ‘financial management’ (14.7 percent), ‘rules related to work’ (14.1 percent) and ‘house work’ (11 percent). Another 8.7 percent of the respondents even thought that ‘terms of divorce’ should be settled before marriage.

The largest reason for divorce picked by the respondents was ‘cheating’ (19.3 percent). ‘Conflicts with the spouse’s family’ (15.9 percent) ranked second, followed by ‘economically disabled’ (14.5 percent), ‘gambling’ (10.2 percent) and ‘home violence’ (10.2 percent).

To the question, ‘What would you do to prepare for possible divorce?’, ‘sign a prenup’ ranked first, with 26.0 percent of men and 28.4 percent of women responding.

When one unfortunately reached divorce, 60 percent of men answered that they would marry again, and 56.9 percent of women answered that they have no intention to remarry.

However, respondents who were younger and had higher incomes were more aggressive in getting married again after divorce.

Officials at Duo comment that the results of the survey show that the current generation is very careful about marriage. “Due to fierce competition, unemployment and economic depression, young people’s psychology of not being able to feel secure is also reflected in marriage.”
