SEOUL, Sept. 8 (Korea Bizwire) — Consumer complaints are growing as Hyundai Motor Co. is preventing customers from overlapping contracts amid prolonged delivery delays.
According to industry sources, Hyundai sales staff are asking those who signed more than two contracts simultaneously to buy either Hyundai-branded or Genesis-branded electric vehicle (EV) models to select only one model and cancel the remaining contracts.
Thus far, consumers can sign overlapping contracts for the IONIQ 5, GV60 and GV70 at the same time. They can purchase only the one delivered earliest and cancel the remaining contracts.
At present, it takes more than a year for customers to take delivery of Hyundai or Genesis-branded EV models.
The standby time differs depending on the options customers select. Accordingly, it’s difficult to determine an accurate date of delivery.
Consumers are complaining about Hyundai’s attempt to prevent multiple contracts, claiming that Hyundai and Genesis are different brands.
Hyundai, however, stressed that the prevention of such contracts at source was not possible in principle since there are cases in which an individual can own multiple vehicles, and that decision to limit customers to a single vehicle order would improve the waiting time for all buyers.
