SEOUL, Feb. 6 (Korea Bizwire) – The number of newly registered foreign cars in January 2015 reached an all-time high since the Korean auto market was opened to foreign competition 25 years ago. According to an announcement from the Korea Automobile Importers & Distributors Association (KAIDA), 19,930 imported cars were sold in January, an increase of 16.4 percent from the number of cars sold in December 2014.
The former record-high number of newly registered foreign cars was 18,112 in July 2014. The percentage of foreign cars among all the cars sold in Korea was also the highest on record, accounting for 18.1 percent.
Mercedes-Benz sold the highest number of cars in January, followed by Audi, BMW and Volkswagen.
