JEONJU, Jul. 15 (Korea Bizwire) — The Gamaek Festival, one of Jeonju’s signature festivals that celebrate the city’s unique drinking culture, will be held on August 8.
The festival will be held over four consecutive days at the Jeonju Stadium in Jeonju, North Jeolla Province with various concerts, performances, and other events.
‘Gamaek Culture’ refers to Jeonju’s unique practice of bringing tables and chairs outside small stores to sell beer, which began in city’s Gyeongwon-dong area in the 1980s.
Vendors serve dried squid, dried pollack, egg rolls, peanuts and other side dishes that go well with beer.
‘Gamaek’ stores are popular among college students and office workers for their affordable food offerings.
Every year, more than 30,000 visitors attend the festival as well.
