SEOUL, Feb. 3 (Korea Bizwire) — LG Electronics has completed a major expansion of its LG Science Park in Seoul’s Magok district, reinforcing its status as the company’s global research and development (R&D) control tower. The expansion consolidates nearly 10,000 domestic R&D employees into the country’s largest corporate R&D center.

The company announced on Monday that four new research buildings have been added to the existing complex, bringing the total number of LG Electronics research facilities in LG Science Park to ten (W1-W10).

With this expansion, the Magok-based R&D hub is set to drive advanced technology development across multiple business units, including Home Solutions (HS), Mobility Solutions (MS), Vehicle Solutions (VS), and Energy Solutions (ES).

A Major Step in R&D Consolidation

Spanning approximately 412,000 square meters (about 5.4 million square feet), LG Science Park is now the largest integrated research complex in South Korea. The company expects the centralized location to enhance synergy among researchers, streamline collaboration, and serve as a crucial asset in attracting top talent.

The transition of employees from other Seoul-based R&D sites, including Seocho, Yangjae, and Gasan, has already begun. More than 2,000 researchers have moved into the newly built research facilities since the Lunar New Year holiday, while an additional 1,000 researchers from the existing LG Science Park buildings have relocated to the new structures.

Strengthening Global R&D Capabilities

LG Science Park will play a more prominent role in overseeing R&D projects across 23 overseas research centers, ensuring the seamless development of region-specific products and advancing headquarters-driven innovation initiatives.

The company has also invested in creating a more spacious and efficient work environment, with an emphasis on fostering collaboration and boosting productivity.

In response to employee needs, LG Electronics has expanded on-site childcare facilities.

The newly established LG Electronics Magok Daycare Center can accommodate up to 100 children, increasing the total childcare capacity within LG Science Park to approximately 460 children. The company aims to support working parents and facilitate a smooth transition for employees moving into the new campus.

Driving Future Growth with Smart Life Solutions

As part of its long-term vision, LG Electronics is intensifying its focus on Smart Life Solutions, transitioning beyond standalone products to deliver a comprehensive customer experience.

This strategic shift underscores the company’s commitment to advancing R&D in next-generation technology and integrated solutions.

With the latest expansion, LG Science Park now houses 26 research buildings, up from 22 previously. Covering 170,000 square meters (42 acres), equivalent to 24 soccer fields, the facility is the largest convergent R&D campus in South Korea.

The site serves as a collaborative innovation hub for over 25,000 employees from LG subsidiaries, including LG Display, LG Innotek, LG Chem, LG Energy Solution, LG Household & Health Care, and LG Uplus, as well as various partner companies and startups.

LG Electronics’ continued investment in R&D infrastructure underscores its ambition to lead global technology innovation, ensuring it remains at the forefront of industrial transformation in the years ahead.
