SEOUL, Feb. 8 (Korea Bizwire) — Jobseekers are flocking to Genesis BBQ Co. amid news that the company had decided to raise its starting salary for university graduates.
The company, which runs one of South Korea’s biggest fried chicken franchises, BBQ Chicken, said Tuesday that more than 2,500 jobseekers had applied during the recruitment period for the first half of this year in just two weeks.
The open recruitment covered seven job categories, with the operations and sales categories attracting many jobseekers.
“This was the first time in our history to attract such a huge number of jobseekers within a short period of time,” the company said.
“Jobseekers showed strong interest in the first open recruitment after the announcement of a pay hike plan for new university graduates.”
Previously, Genesis BBQ announced a plan to raise the annual starting salary for university graduates by 33.5 percent to 45.4 million won (US$36,200), the highest among domestic restaurant franchise businesses.
“We made such a decision based on the judgment that the acquisition of high-caliber talent with strong potential matters the most,” Genesis BBQ Chairman Yoon Hong-geun said last month.
