LOS ANGELES, May 9 (Korea Bizwire) – What is the best way to spark your children’s creativity by taking advantage of the ubiquitous digital tools? Legacy Games, a global game developer and publisher from the US has partnered with Crayola for the development of a series of apps designed to engage children in the creative process, to provide with the answer: Crayola® Color, Draw & Sing.
Crayola® Color, Draw & Sing, combines the process of coloring and drawing with music, so that adding to the picture actually completes the song. Every action, whether using a crayon, paint brush or marker or choosing a new color, unlocks a new musical track in the song.
“At Legacy Games, we are committed to developing games that engage children in the creative process,” said Ariella Lehrer, CEO, who has a PhD in Cognitive Psychology. “With more and more children using digital devices such as tablets, we recognize the importance of providing them with activities that not only spur the creative process but will also help their development. Transferring coloring from paper to the screen is a difficult process, and we were challenged to find a way through the gaming experience to not only teach the children, but to entertain them,” she added.
As part of its creative process, Legacy tested the Crayola® Color, Draw & Sing app with more than 100 children and families at free community art classes at the Barnsdall Arts Park in Los Angeles. “We learned so much from these children and used their experiences to modify the game,” Lehrer explained. “By watching them interact, we were able to see what inspired them and revised the app frequently to reflect this feedback.”
The app features eighteen total musical tracks for each song, each track representing a unique instrument. Including the goal of unlocking all the musical instruments while coloring and drawing adds an imaginative, and decidedly “game-like” twist to the creative process, keeping kids engaged in the creative process longer. It also has dozens of coloring-book templates paired with popular children’s songs such as Frere Jacques, De Colores, All the Pretty Little Horses, as well as more than 50 official Crayola colors. Users can choose between crayons, markers, paints and stickers that further enhance the experience.
“Crayola is excited to partner with Legacy Games on the launch of the Crayola® Color, Draw & Sing app, which provides kids the opportunity to unleash their unique vision in a fun, colorful and virtual experience,” said Warren Schorr, vice president of brand licensing for Crayola. “We know kids of all ages are engaging both online and offline, and always look for opportunities where we can innovate and provide relevant products that spark creativity wherever they are.”
Geared to children ages 2-6, the educational art app is now available on iOS via the App Store for $4.95 and will be available on Android later this month.
Crayola® Color, Draw & Sing is also available for Windows Desktop and Windows 8 through a collaboration with Intel and is specifically designed to showcase the functionality of the portable All-in-one (pAIO), a new category of PCs which offer the performance of a full PC inside a sleek, lay-flat battery–based design with a larger, high definition screen and multi-user functionality.
