SEOUL, Oct. 29 (Korea Bizwire) — The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries hosted the 15th Ocean Art Photography Awards on Thursday.
Held between April and July, the contest handed out awards to 43 pieces out of 3,114 applications.
The Grand Prize went to Kang Tae-ok’s ‘Save the Seagulls’.
Kang’s work captured a seagull flying with a waste string wrapped around its feet near Ulsan’s Bangeojin Port. His work was acclaimed for the symbolic demonstration of the marine environment destroyed by human civilization.
Gold prizes went to Yoon Su-hee’s ‘Best Wishes,’ capturing a Jangseung, a Korean traditional totem pole, gazing out to the sea and wishing for the well-being of the ocean, and Jeong Geum-hwa’s ‘Image of Tideland’ showing the Muan tidal flats decorated by marine plants.
