SEOUL, July 18 (Korea Bizwire) — The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries announced that it will launch a remote medical support service through the e-navigation system, targeting ships operating off the country’s coasts.
The service will make use of an ultra-high-speed LTE-M network.
In the past, it has been challenging to receive support from onshore medical institutions during emergency situations in distant coastal seas due to a lack of proper communication methods.
However, with the introduction of this new system, real-time emergency treatment support will be available through video communication with offshore medical institutions.
This support will be accessible even in locations up to 100 kilometers away from the land, using the e-navigation Wi-Fi system.
The service will be implemented on a trial basis this year, focusing on 100 coastal ships, including fishing boats, cargo ships, and government vessels.
Each ship will be equipped with tablets containing remote medical support apps, medical devices, and first-aid kits.
