SEOUL, June 26 (Korea Bizwire) — POSCO, South Korea’s top steelmaker, has introduced a new remote working program that is committed to equal opportunity in promotions and wages between employees who work at home while taking care of children and those who work at the office.
The company announced on Wednesday that it was launching the nation’s first “No Career Interruption” remote working program which enables its workers to hold down a job and take care of their children at the same time without worrying about career interruption.
POSCO plans to operate this program in full swing from next month after receiving applications from its employees this month.
Employees with children younger than 8 years old or in second grade or lower can apply for a full day (8 hours) or half day (4 hours) remote working program.
Full-day remote workers would work from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. just like others who work at the office. There would be no discrimination in wages between them.
The half-day remote working program was made possible through the combination of the state-run “Working Hour Reduction System for Child Care Period” with POSCO’s in-house “Working Hour Switch Program.”
Employees who apply for the half-day remote working program can choose their working hours (8 p.m. to noon, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.) depending on their child care schedule.
The full-day or half-day (switch type) remote working program can be used for up to two years during the employment period.
The half-day remote working program linked with the state-run Working Hour Reduction System for Child Care Period program can be used for up to two years per child.
