The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees resettlement program transfers refugees living in temporary camps in an asylum country to another country that has agreed to admit them.

The Ministry of Justice said it is currently reviewing eligible Myanmar refugees at the Mae Sot camp on the Thailand-Myanmar border and will bring them into the country in December.

The government plans to provide the eligible refugees with legal and physical protection, as well as grant them F-2 visas, officials said.

Also, the beneficiaries of the resettlement program will have the opportunity to learn Korean and receive job education for the first six to 12 months.

The United States is the world’s top resettlement country, while Australia and Canada also accept a sizable number of candidates annually.

Earlier this year, South Korea announced a three-year resettlement pilot program, raising the number of resettlement countries to 28.
