SEOUL, Sept. 29 (Korea Bizwire) — The Ministry of Education and the Korea Institute of Curriculum and Evaluation said Tuesday that they will jointly launch a new service using artificial intelligence (AI) to recommend books on the basis of an analysis of students’ reading history and activities.
The ‘Book Fruit’ service employs an AI recommendation algorithm used primarily in subscription services to support the reading unit ‘one book per semester’ for elementary students in the third to sixth grades as well as their teachers.
The AI provides customized learning by diagnosing the vocabulary level of students.
It features a real-time reading activity function that allows the sharing of reading experiences, plus an activity history management function that enables users to check reading history and vocabulary learning.
The service provides teaching materials covering as many as 700 books for reading class. An online communication space will allow teachers to upload and correct teaching materials.
The ministry said that after six months of trial operation at three research schools, the ‘Book Fruit’ service enhanced field applicability by collecting reading activity and vocabulary learning-related data and materials.
