SAN FRANCISCO, Jan. 14 (Korea Bizwire) – Samsung Electronics America, Inc. and Delivery Agenttoday announced that Samsung Smart TV viewers can now shop directly from their TVs simultaneously while viewing their favorite TV shows, enabling a true contextual shopping experience. Consumers can use their remote control to shop, receive promotional offers, or request additional information related to TV shows and commercials.
Delivery Agent’s proprietary ShopTV™ t-commerce platform enables contextual product mapping to television content including shows, commercials, sporting events and infomercials. Consumers who opt-in to this unique experience will have the opportunity to purchase products that tie in to the TV content being viewed. For example, if a consumer likes a TV character’s dress or shoes seen during a show, they will be presented with an offer to purchase either or both, while still watching the show. Similarly, while viewing a television commercial, consumers can use their remote to engage with the content and purchase the advertised product. The first deployment of a shoppable ad will air during the H&M ad featuring David Beckham for Super Bowl XLVIII.
“Everyday consumers are exploring new ways to engage and interact more with television content,” said Eric Anderson, VP of Content and Product Solutions at Samsung Electronics America. “At the same time, content creators from television networks to ad agencies are exploring new methods of storytelling and innovative ways to connect with viewers. Our partnership with Delivery Agent allows us to offer an opt-in TV-commerce experience that is contextually relevant to the television content they’re viewing. It is now available, and we’re thrilled to offer it to our consumers.”
The contextual shopping experience is available in 2012 and 2013 Samsung Smart TVs and features a convenient, comfortable and secure shopping experience.
“This technological advancement fundamentally shifts the promise of television for viewers and marketers alike,” said Mike Fitzsimmons, Delivery Agent CEO. “This marks a milestone not only for t-commerce, but for the advertising, retailing and television industries as well. With the ability to curate and deliver offers that are relevant to adjacent content, viewers will have significantly more opportunities to become engaged with content and brands.”
Delivery Agent recently announced the release of its “U.S. Consumer T-Commerce Purchasing Report,” which revealed a strong interest from consumers to engage with and shop for products directly from the TV screen. Results showed that 68% of respondents were interested in using their TV to shop. Of those interested in shopping, 82% wanted to purchase products seen in or tied to their favorite shows and 76% were interested in purchasing products or services directly from commercials.
Parks Associates estimates that of the 136 million TV households in North America projected in 2013, Smart TV homes will be present in 32 million, or 23 percent. By 2017, more than half (53%) of TV households will own a Smart TV.
