SEOUL, March 19 (Korea Bizwire) — The Seoul Metropolitan Government said Thursday the launch of the ‘Arterior’ project, in which regional artists help improve the design of signboards, interiors and product packaging for old stores in their neighborhood.
Arterior is an abbreviation of the two words – art and interior.
The project aims to improve the competitiveness of small merchants and invigorate commercial districts in smaller neighborhoods.
Under this project, the city government plans to select a total of 266 regional artists in 14 districts and arrange their cooperation with 735 stores.
The stores that can benefit from this project are those with fewer than five regular workers that sell products and services to visiting consumers. Bars and franchise stores are excluded.
The city government will provide financial support of up to 1 million won (US$883) per store. The regional artists are required to participate in three or four projects for two to three months, and will be paid 1.8 million won per project.
