SEOUL, Feb. 9 (Korea Bizwire) – The Seoul Metropolitan Government said Tuesday that it will carry out a variety of trial projects within the first half of this year to establish a new logistics system aimed at enhancing efficiency in parcel deliveries as well as creating new jobs.
Among such projects is the establishment of a town-based joint parcel collection and delivery center that will serve as a small logistics base for each district within the city.
If courier service companies bring parcels to the joint centers, a group of young workers hired by each district will deliver them to the doors of households using eco-friendly vehicles such as electric carts.
The center will be established within each district’s community facilities or idle land. The delivery workers will be hired through each district’s regional youth job program.
This project could contribute to enhancing the efficiency of courier service companies, while creating new youth jobs for each district.
Plus, it would result in a decline in the operation of trucks in residential areas, thereby contributing to improving traffic and the environment.
The city government plans to establish a total of five joint delivery centers within this year on a trial basis through public contests among district offices in March. The centers will start operating in August.
