SEOUL, July 30 (Korea Bizwire) –  Starting next year, Seoul residents will be able to access the city’s public bike-sharing system, known as “Ttareungi,” through a popular private mobility platform app, Socar.

This integration marks a significant step in improving the accessibility of eco-friendly transportation options in the South Korean capital.

The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on July 30 that it would sign a memorandum of understanding with Socar on July 31. This partnership aims to promote the use of environmentally friendly transportation and improve convenience for citizens.

Under the agreement, Socar will update its app in the first half of next year to include a range of Ttareungi services. Users will be able to locate bike stations, check bicycle availability, rent and return bikes, and purchase passes directly through the Socar app.

This collaboration is expected to not only streamline the connection between shared bicycles and car-sharing services but also to boost the overall use of green transportation options.

In an innovative approach to bike redistribution, the agreement introduces a “citizen participation” feature. Users who return Ttareungi bikes to stations with low inventory will receive credits redeemable on the Socar platform.

This incentive aims to improve the efficiency of bike distribution, particularly during peak hours in high-traffic areas.

Kang Pil-young, Seoul’s Director of Transportation Operations, expressed optimism about the partnership. “This agreement is expected to significantly enhance the connectivity between shared transportation modes,” Kang said.

“We will focus on providing stable services and improving accessibility to contribute to the expansion of eco-friendly mobility options.”

The city and Socar also plan to conduct joint marketing efforts to promote the use of shared mobility services, including Ttareungi.
