Software Developers Pick Salary as Most Important Factor When Switching Jobs

SEOUL, Jan. 26 (Korea Bizwire)Eight out of 10 South Korean software developers regard salary as the most important factor when considering a job move, a survey showed Wednesday.

According to a survey of 508 developers conducted by recruiting platform Wanted Lab, Inc., 82.3 percent of the respondents (multiple answers possible) picked salary as the most important factor when considering changing jobs.

Apart from salary, 61.3 percent picked the potential for growth, followed by work conditions at 52 percent and coworkers at 27.6 percent.

In response to a question asking about the criteria for determining a good place to work, 65.9 percent cited support for employee growth, followed by excellent development infrastructure at 61.3 percent, a guarantee of a leading role on development teams at 59.8 percent, and the existence of technology leaders at 59.8 percent.

When about the most essential skill for software developers to possess, 84.4 percent picked communication skills, followed by development expertise at 65.7 percent and a persistent attitude towards learning at 64 percent.

At 65.4 percent, a majority of the respondents also expressed a preference for Gangnam district in Seoul as a workplace location over Pangyo, south of Seoul where many technology companies are based.
