TONGYEONG, Sept. 23 (Koera Bizwire) – Classical concerts honoring the world-renowned South Korean-born composer Yun Isang will be staged in Germany and three other European countries from next week to mark his 100th birthday.
The Tongyeong Festival Orchestra (TFO) said on Saturday that it will hold a 10-day tour of Europe from Monday in remembrance of his musical feats and promote Tongyeong as the birthplace of the late composer.
The coastal city located about 480 kilometers south of Seoul is famous for the Tongyeong International Music Festival, which was launched to celebrate Yun (1917-1995).
The tour will take the orchestra to the German cities of Bochum, Hamburg and Hanover; Austria’s Linz; Brno of the Czech Republic and Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia.
TFO will perform Yun’s Violin Concerto No. 3 written in 1992 and “Harmonia” (1974) led by Heinz Holliger, a Swiss oboist, composer and conductor who was a close friend of Yun, during the tour. Clara-Jumi Kang, a German violinist of South Korean descent, will perform with them.
