SEOUL, Oct. 4 (Korea Bizwire) — Every autumn, university towns are overrun by local residents collecting berries from trees on campus.
In response, university students have stepped up to protect acorns and chestnuts, which are an important food source for wild animals.
Members of the animal rights club at the Seoul National University of Science and Technology have set up facilities at four locations throughout the campus for the collection and storage of acorns that fall from oak trees, keeping watch of local residents illegally collecting chestnuts and acorns on campus.
The activists regularly collect acorns to put them in uninhabited areas for wild animals preparing for the winter.
One student club at Yonsei University spends extra time in autumn to keep watch over the trees.
“We plan to support their cause by setting up signs inside the campus this month,” said a faculty member from Ewha Womans University.
