SEOUL, March 10 (Koreabiz Wire) – Leaving the lights on can leave a negative impact on the brain while sleeping, research staff at the Korea University Anam Hospital found.
Professors of neuropsychiatry at the hospital discovered brain function deterioration can occur during sleep when exposed to light no matter how dim it is.
The recent study compared the difference after observing twenty male and female participants who slept with and without a light on.
Disruption during sleep caused by brightness equal to 10 lux, which is similar to the amount of light emitted by 10 candles from one meter, can deteriorate brain performance the following day, the findings revealed.
Professor Lee Heon-jeong, who led the study, recommends drawing a curtain and avoiding the use of electronic devices before bed to sleep better.
