GYEONGJU, Dec. 10 (Korea Bizwire) — The first demolition fire truck has been introduced at a nuclear power plant in South Korea.
The new unmanned demolition fire truck, acquired by Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Corp.’s Wolsong Nuclear Power Plant, is capable of discharging water jets as far as 100 meters horizontally and 60 meters vertically to fight fires at all facilities within the complex.
The vehicle was designed by Rosenbauer, an Austrian fire-service vehicle manufacturer, and is priced at around 1.6 billion won (US$1.5 million).
It is capable of being remotely controlled within a radius of 100 meters, and can break through obstacles to fight fires caused by a nuclear accident.
The vehicle’s six-wheel drive capability, operability on inclines of up to 30 degrees, and run-flat tires that retain shape regardless of punctures or other damages allow the vehicle to operate in any extreme environment.
The vehicle also comes with decontamination features that can be used in accidents involving chemical leaks.
