BUSAN, Sept. 4 (Korea Bizwire)The World Climate Industry Expo kicked off in the southern port city of Busan for a three-day run on Wednesday, inviting energy experts from home and abroad to discuss sustainable development through carbon-free energy sources.

The event, hosted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and the International Energy Agency (IEA), aims to find ways to promote South Korea’s Carbon-Free Energy (CFE) initiative, announced by President Yoon Suk Yeol last year, to address climate change.

The CFE initiative focuses on achieving carbon neutrality by harnessing carbon-free sources, including nuclear and hydrogen.

Under the theme “Ushering in a carbon-free energy era with climate technologies,” the organizers will host 11 conferences on the sidelines, with 537 businesses also displaying their latest achievements in the climate industry.

Major events include a joint forum by the industry ministry and the IEA, along with other events covering agenda items such as green growth, climate change response, and artificial intelligence.

A workshop session will also be held for member countries of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation to introduce the CFE initiative, with Korea Hydro and Nuclear Power holding a forum on the use of clean hydrogen.

On the previous day, the industry ministry and the IEA also announced a joint statement supporting the CFE initiative as “an effective means to accelerate progress towards achieving net zero emissions by 2050.”
