SEOUL, Dec. 31 (Korea Bizwire) – The COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on South Koreans’ waistlines, according to data from a recent survey.
The Korea Health Promotion Institute conducted a survey of 1,000 South Koreans, 42 percent of whom said they had gained weight since the onset of the pandemic with respondents reporting an average increase of 3.5 kilograms.
At 52.1 percent, slightly more than half said they had gained weight from being less active in their everyday lives, followed by less exercise (34.3 percent) and changes in diet (13.6 percent).
Another 53.5 percent of respondents said they had become less active each day as the pandemic continued.
More than two-thirds of 420 respondents who gained weight after the coronavirus outbreak said they had become less active.
Those who responded that they hardly exercised jumped from 15.6 percent in the pre-pandemic era to 19 percent following the coronavirus outbreak.
