SEOUL, Dec. 20 (Korea Bizwire) — Beef from Korean premium “hanwoo” cattle and wine have swept across large-sized retailers this year.
E-Mart Inc., in its sales report from 2019 to November of this year, showed that wine went from ranking 10th in sales last year to sixth this year after seeing a jump in sales of 32 percent,
The discount store chain attributed the change to the rise of consumers who used to prefer cheap wine costing between 10,000-20,000 won (US$8.39-16.78) last year, and have begun to take interest in more expensive wine this year.
Korean beef sales jumped by 15.8 percent this year, going from ninth on the sales charts last year to seventh this year, likely due to rising demand from home cooks after the pandemic discouraged consumers from going to outdoor Korean barbeque restaurants.
