SEOUL, April 14 (Korea Bizwire) — Among Seoul’s 25 districts, the top three areas in terms of the number of 5G base stations were the three Gangnam districts of southern Seoul, data showed Wednesday.
According to the data that the Ministry of Science and ICT submitted to Rep. Hwangbo Seung-hee of the People Power Party, the number of 5G base stations installed throughout Seoul as of the end of March stood at 37,680 units, with the average number of 5G base stations per district estimated at 1,507 units.
Affluent areas of Gangnam, Seocho and Seocho were the only districts each with more than 2,000 5G base stations. The share of these districts in Seoul’s total 5G base stations reached 20.3 percent.
In contrast, the number of 5G base stations installed in each of the northeastern wards of Dobong, Gangbuk and Geumcheon was less than 1,000 units.
In general, the more base stations, the higher the quality of phone calls, including data transmission.
However, industry officials noted that the three Gangnam areas have a larger number of 5G base stations since they have a relatively larger floating population and more skyscrapers.
