SEOUL, April 26 (Korea Bizwire) — The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced that subsidy applications will open on Wednesday for purchases of electric motorcycles, including delivery bikes.
The city government plans to subsidize the cost of 1,400 electric motorcycles for the first half of the year.
This includes 900 ordinary motorcycles (64 percent), 360 delivery bikes (26 percent), and 140 priority bikes (10 percent).
Compact bikes will be eligible for subsidies of up to 1.4 million won (US$1,040), small bikes up to 2.3 million won, medium bikes up to 2.7 million won, large bikes up to 3 million won, and others 2.7 million won.
The city will provide an additional 10 percent of the government subsidy for each type of vehicle to small business owners and vulnerable groups this year.
Previously, a transport insurance certificate (subscription of more than 6 months) was required to purchase an electric motorcycle for delivery purposes.
This year, a transport insurance certificate (subscription of more than 3 months) or a part-time transport insurance certificate (subscription of more than 6 months) will be accepted.
Up to 60 percent of subsidies will still be provided if a person chooses to purchase only the body of the vehicle and use a battery-sharing service.
