JEJU, Feb. 13 (Korea Bizwire) — A new technology that automatically controls fish farming equipment will be developed with artificial intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT) for use in flatfish aquaculture on Jeju Island.
The Jeju Oceans and Fisheries Institute announced on Tuesday that it has started developing technologies to culture flatfish as the idea, pitched by a Chonnam National University research team, was chosen as part of a contest.
The institute will provide 6.9 billion won (US$6.15 million) in funding for seven years from 2019 to 2025 to develop smart fish farming technologies and train professionals.
The developers plan to utilize AI to automatically monitor the water quality at fish farms and automatically operate the equipment which controls the environment when problems are detected.
In addition, IoT will be used on mobile devices to monitor and manage farms remotely.
