SEOUL, Sept. 15 (Korea Bizwire) — A new education program to teach cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) has introduced a virtual reality (VR) platform to adjust to the pandemic era.
Asan Medical Center in Seoul said Tuesday that it introduced the country’s first VR-based training program for CPR to cope with contact restrictions to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Each trainee wears a VR headset, in which they engage in one-on-one training with an artificial intelligence (AI) instructor on how to resuscitate the heart.
The AI instructor teaches the student how to check on the patient, calling for assistance, applying pressure to the chest and using an automated external defibrillator.
The AI Instructor will point out in real-time if the trainee fails to engage in eye contact with a passerby when asking for help, tap on the patient’s shoulders to check if he/she is conscious or meet other guidelines.
The mannequin is equipped with a precision sensor that monitors the pressure and speed of the heart massage in real-time. Trainees can check the monitor to correct their movements.
