Big Data, AI Technology Lead to Boom in Customized Consumer Items and Services

SEOUL, Jan. 25 (Korea Bizwire)The development of big data and artificial intelligence (AI) technology has resulted in a boom of customized consumer items in South Korea.

A good example is the fashion industry, which is rolling out a variety of customized services.

Tribons Co., a South Korean apparel manufacturer, is running an online platform for custom shirts using big data accumulated based on its 10 years of shirt manufacturing and repair.

Once customers select their favorite design and input personal information on height, weight, age and body type, customized shirts can be made without the need to measure their actual body size.

Local startup Perfitt provides a shoe size recommendation service based on 600,000 records of foot data and more than 40,000 records of shoe data.

Once consumers take a photo of their foot, AI automatically analyzes their foot length and height and recommends the best fit shoes and size by comparing it with the stored data.

Customized services are also booming in the cosmetics category. CJ Onstyle, a shopping brand under media and entertainment giant CJ ENM, joined hands with Cosmax to launch a customized hair care brand within the first half of this year.

Some stores run by South Korea’s top cosmetics maker AmorePacific Corp. measure the skin tone of customers to provide customized recommendations on foundation and lipstick colors, as well as to offer customized items on site.
