SEOUL, Korea, Nov 28 (Korea Bizwire) – CJ CheilJedang announced that its recently introduced program will help to reduce emission of greenhouse gases by a total of 2,800 tons next year. CJ runs ‘Green Partnership for Shared Growth among Large and Small Businesses’ sponsored by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE) through which the company has succeeded in providing its suppliers — mostly SMEs(small and medium enterprises) — with advanced energy conserving methods and techniques, drawing growing attention from the local businesses as a new shared growth model between large and small entities — a model championed by the government for now.

CJ said a total of 15 suppliers received training on green management supported by CJ which appears to help reduce emission of greenhouse gases by 2,800 tons, the equivalent of conserving approximately 1 billion won worth of energy consumption. With these results and positive feedback from participating companies, CJ seems to expand the program and transfer green management techniques to 30 companies next year.

While ‘green management’ has been highly recommended to the local businesses to be in line with the government’s ‘low carbon green growth initiative,’ small and medium sized businesses lack the necessary know-how and experience to put ‘green management’ in to the field. Given the circumstances, CJ CheilJedang, which pulled off having reduced about 20,000 tons of greenhouse gas emission last year alone, suggests to transfer its knowledge and skills to its cooperative companies.

CJ CheilJedang’s shared growth program is also built on the company’s business model of ‘Creating Shared Value (CSV).’ CSV strives for the internalization of social values in its business activities. The ‘Green Partnership for Shared Growth among Large and Small Businesses’ program shows that CJ CheilJedang has evolved further; CJ has moved on from a corporation running a traditional Corporate Social Responsibility model (CSR) looking to its proprietary CSV model, a longer-term model for contributing to social welfare through economic activities.

Lim Seok hwan, head of the CSV management team at CJ CheilJedang says, “CJ will continue to commit ourselves to contributing to social well-being, through this program of CSV, and will make every effort in varied fields to realize “Win Win” results for shared growth and prosperity.”
