SEOUL, May 11 (Korea Bizwire)Climate change not only alters the timing of the blooming seasons, but also triggers early spawning among animals, and threatens the survival of trees at high altitudes.

The state-run Korea National Park Service (KNPS) recently reported that climate change is being felt in all environmental aspects including local ecosystems and the weather.

For plants, climate change has moved up the blooming season for adonis by 11 days, and ginger plants by 16 days, to reach full bloom 11 days earlier than 2017.

Climate change is being felt among animals as well. For one, the brown frog’s first spawning season has moved up, and the spawning season itself has extended.

Climate change was also found to undermine the survival of evergreen needleleaf trees living in Mt. Seorak’s highlands.

“Trees living at high altitudes are capable of absorbing water throughout the winter when there’s snow in November,” the KNPS said.

“Climate change, however, has replaced snow with rain due to warmer temperatures, depriving the younger trees of the opportunity to secure enough water for growth.”
