SEOUL, Dec. 5 (Korea Bizwire) — Mike Figgis, an English film director best known for his work on “Leaving Las Vegas,” a Hollywood film that was nominated for two Academy Awards, will be directing a movie in Korea.
The film’s scenario was recently translated into Korean, and Figgis is currently in South Korea to meet with local film producers.
Once the project is confirmed, Figgis will be the first famous western film director to shoot a film in the Korean language in South Korea.
In an interview, the English director said that he considers himself a fan of Korean film and dramas, which naturally led to the idea of working on a film in South Korea.
The director also stated that Korean actors were extremely well-versed in their acting skills, one reason why any director would want to come to Korea to work in the industry.
“Compared to China or Japan, Korean filmmakers have an international outlook and Korean films are full of energy,” said Figgis.
The film currently in the works is a thriller featuring a female lead. According to the storyline, the female character is kidnapped by a psychopath before losing her memory.
The movie will focus on what happens after she regains her memory 10 years later.
