SEOUL, Jul. 22 (Korea Bizwire)An increasing number of South Korean finance and investment companies are going beyond preferring suits and ties to allow employees to wear the clothes of their choice.

Many finance firms are introducing the new policy to reflect the fact that taking off a tie helps to drop perceived body temperature by 2 degrees Celsius and raises work efficiency.

Hyundai Motor Securities Co. dropped its dress code policy early this month to foster a creative working environment.

The new policy applies to all staff, except for local offices where cashiers will continue to wear no-tie business attire to maintain a professional image in front of customers.

Other companies, including KB Securities Co., have designated Friday as a ‘casual day,’ where all employees are allowed to freely choose their working outfit.

On other days, the company allowed employees to take off their ties and wear short sleeve shirts to work in the summer.

Daishin Securities Co. also introduced a no-tie and short-sleeve policy for the period from June to September. The company also allows workers to wear what they want every Friday.

Many companies have introduced a no-tie policy throughout all seasons, including Mirae Asset Daewoo Co. and NH Investment & Securities Co., despite company regulations that all employees must wear formal business attire.

Experts argue that the no-tie policy increases efficiency at work.
