BUSAN, April 14 (Korea Bizwire) — Farmer Kim Kyung-yang is harvesting rice for the first time this season in the Busan area on Friday morning, at his rice field located in Jukdong-dong, Gangseo-gu, Busan. The first variety to be planted in his field is Hae Dam rice, an early season type that will have a short growing season and be harvested in mid-August this year.

Although the exact date of when rice planting began in Korea is unclear, the earliest known record of it can be found in the Goryeo History. Prior to that, rice farming was typically done by irrigating the paddy field and then sowing seeds or by selecting a field and then sowing seeds.
