SEOUL, June 14 (Korea Bizwire) – Gov. Brian Kemp of the U.S. state of Georgia has met with top executives at Hyundai Motor and SK groups in Seoul this week to discuss ongoing business partnerships, according to industry sources Friday.
Kemp is currently leading a state delegation to South Korea to meet with local companies for discussions on ongoing projects. Georgia has successfully attracted high-profile investments from big South Korean businesses, such as Hyundai Motor, SK, Hanwha and LG, in recent years.
According to the sources, Kemp visited SK headquarters in central Seoul on Thursday and met with group leaders, including SK Innovation Vice Chairman Choi Jae-won and SK On Vice Chairman Yoo Jeong-joon.
The governor also met with key executives at Hyundai Motor, including President and CEO Chang Jae-hoon, at a dinner meeting Thursday, sources said.
On social media, Kemp shared photos taken at SK headquarters and in front of a Hyundai Motor hydrogen fuel cell bus. He also posted a photo of his visit to the Demilitarized Zone near the border with North Korea.
“Great first full day meeting with partners at Hyundai and SK On who create jobs and opportunity for hardworking Georgians,” the governor wrote on social media.
The South Korean auto giant is currently constructing a new electric vehicle plant, named Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America, in Georgia. The plant is scheduled to be completed in the fourth quarter.
Hyundai Motor and SK On are also building a battery plant in Georgia with an annual production capacity of 35 GWh. SK On is also operating two of its own plants in Georgia.
