SEOUL, June 29 (Korea Bizwire)The National Fire Agency has announced that the revised enforcement regulations of the Hazardous Material Safety Management Act, with a focus on relaxing standards for the installation of electric vehicle (EV) charging facilities at gas stations, will take effect on Thursday.

The existing enforcement regulations stipulated that EV chargers installed at gas stations should be at least 6 meters away from the fuel dispenser.

This rule posed difficulties for gas stations located in urban areas that wanted to equip themselves with EV chargers.

The new enforcement regulations define the installation standards for EV chargers based on “areas without the risk of explosion” instead of a uniform distance requirement.

This change lays the foundation for the growth of EV charging facilities.

Earlier this month, the firefighting authorities granted permission for the installation of hydrogen fuel cells at gas stations prior to this development.
