SEOUL, Dec. 30 (Korea Bizwire) — GS Caltex Corp., a major South Korean refiner, said Thursday it will make and donate “braille first-aid kits” for visually impaired people during the year-end season.
The braille first-aid kit is made by inserting various medical items such as ointment, disinfectant and antipyretic analgesic into a flat first-aid kit and then attaching braille stickers onto each medical item to make it easier for visually impaired people to use them.
Household medicines tend to have similar sizes and shapes, thus making it difficult for visually-impaired people to use them without confusion.
GS Caltex plans to donate the 350 sets of braille first-aid kits made by about 160 employees and their families to visually-impaired people through the Welfare Center for the Blind in Seoul’s Nowon Ward.
“GS Caltex’s heartfelt social contribution will be a great help in enabling visually-impaired people to use medical items safely without abuse and confusion,” said Baik Hye-ryun, the head of the welfare center.
