SEOUL, Nov.12 (Korea Bizwire) – Traditional Korean foods that emphasize both taste and health have been introduced to members of the United Nations.
The Korean Council for College Education (KCCE) hosted a dinner featuring traditional Korean food, dubbed ‘An Evening of Art and Korean Cuisine’.
Sixty guests including ambassadors staying in New York and dignitaries from the UN were invited to enjoy the ‘Korean Wave’ of food.
Ban Ki-moon, the United Nations Secretary-General, could not make it to the event due to an overseas business trip, but his wife Yoo Soon-taek was able to participate.
A ‘dream team’ from Korean culinary circles, 18 students and professors from six colleges, prepared seven dishes after arriving in New York.
The theme of the dinner was ‘Health and Beauty’.
The seven dishes were served course after course, from porridge to steamed seasoned meat, including the already famous bibimbap and kimchi. Traditional Korean beverages, snacks and dried fruit were served for dessert.
Officials from the dream team of cooks commented that they wanted to let the world know that Hansik, traditional Korean food, is not only tasty but also healthy. “We used good ingredients and the mushrooms and herbs were brought from Korea.”
Nuts, which could cause allergic reactions, were excluded from the recipes.
