SEOUL, Sept. 21 (Korea Bizwire) – The upcoming Chuseok holiday starting on October 2 will likely see a reenactment of the annual tradition of highways jam packed with cars inching slowly but surely to extended family gatherings in the outer provinces.
In order to cheer up travelers made morose by appalling traffic conditions, the Korea Expressway Corporation announced on September 21 that it has installed a variety of amusements and amenities at major highway service areas on routes both to and from Seoul.
At the Anseong Service Area along the Gyeongbu Expressway towards Seoul, a medical clinic for internal medicine, orthopedics, dermatology and pediatrics will be open every day from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. except Saturday. It is the first medical clinic to open at a highway service area in South Korea.

Travelers on their back way to Seoul on the Seohaean Expressway looking for a short activity to really stretch their legs can stop by at the Gochang Goindol Service Area and indulge in 9 holes of mini golf.
Stuck in a car for hours on end with pets can leave both owner and animal restless and exhausted. Travelers lucky enough to be on the Yeongdong Expressway can visit Deokpyeong Service Area’s pet store for treats and toys to keep their animals occupied. Pet stores are also being opened at the Jukam (to Seoul, Gyeongbu Expressway), Seosan (to Mokpo, Seohaean Expressway) and Ohsu (to Jeonju, Suncheon-Wanju Expressway) Service Areas.
The Gujeong Service Area on the Donghae Expressway to Donghae has a campground for weary and bleary-eyed drivers to get some proper shut-eye.

With the Korea Express Corporation reporting that there will also be designer outlet stores hawking the latest fashions, service areas are certainly well-prepared for the 10-day holiday period. The only question is whether travelers will actually make use of any of these new services.
