SEOUL, May 26 (Korea Bizwire)Hyundai Mobis Co., South Korea’s leading auto parts maker, said Thursday it has developed a next-generation headlamp called the HD Lighting System.

The system can project driving information onto the road surface, including upcoming road construction and the speed limit.

It utilizes front camera sensors or navigation to detect driving information, which is then projected onto the road surface in real time using letters or figures.

For instance, if there is a construction site ahead, the lamp displays a 1.5-meter wide “under construction” symbol on the road surface, precisely 15 meters away from the driver’s field of view.

Additionally, it provides information on speed limits, speed bumps, and expressway ramp directions.

According to Hyundai Mobis, these advanced lights significantly enhance drivers’ awareness of their surroundings during nighttime driving, ultimately reducing the risk of accidents.

In an effort to prioritize pedestrian safety, the lamps also project a virtual crosswalk sign onto the road at night.

The HD Lighting System is composed of HD microLEDs and a digital micromirror device (DMD), which function as a light source and a reflector, respectively.

Equipped with approximately 25,000 microLEDs measuring 0.04 millimeters in size, the lamp enables precise light control and accurate identification of objects and pedestrians by the vehicle.

Furthermore, the system incorporates 1.3 million digital mirrors that reflect the light emitted by the densely positioned LEDs, thereby displaying various shapes and symbols on the road surface.
