INCHEON, Korea, May 6 (Korea Bizwire)Incheon Metropolitan City plans to launch a “dementia partner” program in a bid to change negative perception related to the chronic disease.

On May 5, the city government announced that it would recruit “dementia partners.” Anyone who is interested in the disease can join the program, and the city will collect application forms collectively at schools and companies or individually from its citizens.

Once registered as dementia partners, individuals will take a basic course about the disease, and after the learning program, dementia partners will be encouraged to participate in public relations activities through the city’s dementia center homepage, blog, Facebook and other SNS services.

Participants will take part in various offline campaigns for dementia prevention, such as early check-ups. Selected partners will get more intensive education from the city, and will be appointed as dementia supporters by the city.

An Incheon official said, “Dementia partners will offer accurate information about the disease, and reduce negative perception related to it. The city welcomes anyone who is interested in dementia.”

Meanwhile, the city is offering various facilities to take care of dementia patients by setting up its first day care centers. Currently, it runs 12 day care centers and 4 dementia control centers within the city.
