DAEJEON, Dec. 22 (Korea Bizwire) — The Electrical Engineering Department at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) held the nation’s first virtual reality (VR)-based orientation session on Monday.
The department introduced KAIST’s educational and research environment through a virtual studio using the program ‘Discord’ and the 3D VR platform ‘Mozilla Hub.’
In particular, the department made a 3D virtual lobby on the basis of the actual department building, establishing a ‘virtual reality research lab poster session’ that consisted of about 20 lab PR booths.
The department allowed participants to create their own avatars and receive introductory materials by sending their avatars to the lab booth they had interest in, while enabling them to have consultations with lab managers by using Discord’s chatting and voice communication functions.
