SEOUL, Feb. 13 (Korea Bizwire) — An automated ball-strike system will be introduced at in the Futures League, the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO)’s equivalent of the minor league.
The KBO decided to develop and test the system over the next 20 games in the Futures League, and is currently looking for a subcontractor to oversee the testing process.
Automated ball-strike systems are largely divided into two types: strike zone detection radar systems and camera-based tracking systems tested in the U.S. Independent Baseball League.
A strike zone detection radar system sends its ball-strike decision through earphones to the umpire standing behind home plate, who makes the final decision.
On the other hand, camera-based tracking systems involve the use of multiple cameras installed around the baseball field to track the pitch.
