SEOUL, Sep. 14 (Korea Bizwire) – The Korean government expands scholarships to attract international elites from the ASEAN member countries.
Education Minister Hwang Woo-yeo is taking all the necessary diplomatic steps to invite international students from the ASEAN member states while attending “the ASEAN Plus Three Education Ministers’ Meeting” in Vientiane, Lao PDR, the Ministry of Education announced on September 11.
Minister Hwang presented a plan to attract talented students from the ASEAN countries at the meeting with the education ministers of ASEAN Plus Three. According the plan, the ministry will expand “Global Korea Scholarship” targeting at international elite students from 2015.
It will invite the elite students from the countries and visit local universities, industries and institutes during vacations. Moreover, if the students who attend this program decide to apply for a local university to further the field of science or engineering, they will be beneficiaries of various scholarships.
To this end, minister Hwang plans to meet the deputy education minister from Malaysia and the education ministers from Vietnam, Australia, the Philippines and Myanmar.
At the opening speech of the ASEAN Plus Three Education Ministers’ Meeting, minister Hwang is going to address, “I assure that ASEAN, celebrating the limitless potential, takes on the driving force of the world’s prosperity,” and stress, “We should aid the youth in grabbing an invaluable opportunity to experience various cultures and disciplines, and the youth should boost their minds as global citizens via hands-on and international experiences and respect for different cultures.”
