SEOUL, July 23 (Korea Bizwire) – LG Innotek, a leading electronics components manufacturer, announced on June 22 its plans to accelerate its expansion into the automotive communication parts market with a cutting-edge digital key solution.
Digital keys, which allow users to lock, unlock, and start vehicles using smartphones connected via wireless technology, have seen a surge in demand due to the growth of the car-sharing industry.
LG Innotek first launched its vehicle digital key module in 2021 and has since refined the technology to enhance passenger safety and convenience.
The company’s next-generation digital key solution goes beyond the traditional module, incorporating both hardware components like antennas and circuits, and the software required to operate the digital key system. This integrated approach marks a significant advancement in the field.
A key feature of the new solution is its improved security. Unlike earlier products that relied on long-range cellular communication, LG Innotek’s latest offering utilizes short-range communication technologies such as Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), Near Field Communication (NFC) for distances within 10 meters, and Ultra-Wideband (UWB).
The solution also includes a proprietary radar system, enabling additional safety and convenience features such as Child Presence Detection (CPD) inside vehicles.
LG Innotek has set 2027 as the target year for mass production of this next-generation digital key solution and is actively promoting it to global automotive manufacturers.
In addition to the digital key technology, the company is leveraging its 5G-V2X (Vehicle to Everything) communication module for Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), developed last year, to further penetrate the automotive communication parts market.
The company reports recent success in securing orders for this communication module from global automakers and expects its vehicle communication module sales to more than quadruple this year compared to the previous year.
“LG Innotek will nurture vehicle communication components as a core pillar of our automotive components business, based on our unrivaled wireless communication technology,” said Moon Hyuksoo, CEO of LG Innotek.
“We will continue to introduce products that provide differentiated customer value and solidify our position as a leading company in the global vehicle communication components market.”
