SEOUL, June 26 (Korea Bizwire)A majority of South Korean adults consider cars to be an essential commodity, a survey showed Sunday.

Embrain Trend Monitor conducted a survey of 1,000 adults aged 19 to 59 who hold driver’s licenses across the country. Among the respondents, 84.4 percent indicated that cars are essential in today’s society.

A high percentage of participants, specifically 83.2 percent, consider one car per household as a basic necessity.

Regarding future car purchases, 76.3 percent of the respondents expressed their intention to buy a car. Among them, 75.8 percent preferred new cars over used ones.

When asked about acquiring a new car, only a small percentage mentioned renting (11.3 percent) or leasing (8.7 percent). This suggests that people generally view cars as personal possessions rather than items to share or lease.

Notably, the proportion of individuals who believed they should have a car under their name was relatively higher among those in their 20s and 30s compared to other age groups.

Furthermore, individuals in their 20s and 30s displayed a greater inclination toward luxury cars and imported vehicles in comparison to other age groups.
