SEOUL, March 16 (Korea Bizwire)Despite a police investigation of an illegal streaming site “noonoo TV,” the number of users of the site is increasing, primarily thanks to the so-called the Streisand effect, the act of trying to suppress information but simply making it more widespread as a result.

A consultative body consisting of broadcasting companies, film producers and distributors filed a criminal complaint against noonoo TV last week.

Recently, it went viral that the famous Netflix drama “The Glory” and the documentary “In the Name of God: A Holy Betrayal” could be viewed illegally through noonoo TV.

As of Wednesday, the number of searches for the last episode of “The Glory” on the site exceeded 4 million in just four days.

noonoo TV is a site that generates earnings by illegally providing domestic streaming contents, dramas and movies using overseas servers.

Despite several attempts to block access to the site, it keeps running by bypassing the address.

As of last month, the total number of views of the videos uploaded on the site stood at more than 1.5 billion, significantly higher than the number of views on South Korea’s major streaming sites.
