SEOUL, March 10 (Korea Bizwire) — If Netflix introduces a policy imposing additional charges on account sharing for the Korean market, a large portion of its users would stop using it, a survey showed Thursday.
The Korea Press Foundation conducted a questionnaire survey of 1,000 local Netflix users aged from their 20s to 50s.
The survey showed that 62.8 percent of users who shared the subscription fees with others by sharing their accounts said they would stop using the service if account sharing was prohibited.
Only 7.7 percent said they were willing to pay additional charges to continue to watch Netflix.
The share of those who said they would subscribe with a new account remained low at 6.4 percent.
For the users who solely bear the burden of subscription fees, 35.5 percent said that they would continue to use the service even if account sharing was prohibited, while 33 percent said they would cancel.
Another 14.8 percent said that they would stop sharing their account, while 8.9 percent said they would continue to share their account while paying extra fees.
In response to a question asking about the current cost of a Netflix subscription, 66.5 percent of the respondents said that it was expensive, far higher than 31.5 percent who said it was reasonable.
